Bruce Springsteen makes college kids day. Matthew Aucion held up a sign "Can a College Kid play No Surrender with you." Who would have thought Springsteen would call him up to perform. Matthew even got a selfie with Springsteen, as if the guys back on campus didn't already know. Matthew Aucoin concert debut with Bruce Springsteen in Philadelphia on 9-9-16. It was a longshot, at best, for Texas A&M sophomore Matthew Aucoin. Matthew and his father flew up to Philadelphia last week to catch Bruce Springsteen’s concert at Citizens Bank Park. They made their way to the front of the stage, and Matthew held up a homemade sign “Can a college kid play ‘No Surrender’ with you?”
The Boss said yes! And the next thing Aucoin knew, he was rockin’ and rollin’ with his superstar hero in front of 50,000 screaming fans.
“At the end of the song ‘Rosalita,’ I found the perfect opportunity to raise my sign to Bruce,” said Aucoin. “I hold it up and boom, he makes eye contact with it and scans it and thinks about it. He’s thinking, thinking, thinking, and looked over to his bandmate Steve Van Zandt. Then he looked towards my dad and said, ‘Can he play?” My dad said ‘He can play it!’ And I said ‘I can play it!’ So he waved for me to go onstage."
Aucoin stood shoulder to shoulder with Springsteen for “No Surrender.” Before he left the stage, he took a selfie with Springsteen.
“Boy, it was the time of my life. I’m 19. I’m fully aware that this is probably the best day of my life. So I apologize in advance to the woman I marry someday."
